Joshua Tan is a musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapist at Marylebone Health, currently embedded full-time with GB Boxing at the UK Sports Institute, where he supports the day-to-day physiotherapy provision to the programme and travels internationally with the squad for competition. He is dual-qualified in physiotherapy and Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, and registered with both the HCPC and the British Acupuncture Council.

Josh works as an integrative clinician rather than a single-region specialist. His interest lies in how systems interact — how breathing mechanics, sensorimotor function, sleep, tissue capacity, training load and competition demand combine to produce a presentation — and he is most useful to patients whose problem has been assessed system by system without resolving. That approach comes directly from embedded elite sport, where one clinician has to account for the whole individual rather than a single structure.

Josh graduated with an honours degree in Physiotherapy from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, in 2016. He spent his early career in NHS musculoskeletal outpatients and in chronic pain before moving to King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as a First Contact Practitioner and Team Lead, and subsequently as Clinical Lead Physiotherapist for the MCATS and FCP services at advanced practice level. In that role he managed complex musculoskeletal caseloads, led a clinical team, and worked closely with consultant colleagues across rheumatology, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, and sport and exercise medicine — triaging, investigating and co-managing patients at the point where a musculoskeletal presentation and a medical one are difficult to separate. He completed the NHS Leadership Academy’s Mary Seacole leadership programme in 2024.

Alongside his NHS work, Josh has practised privately in London since 2019. In 2023 he completed a second honours degree, in Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, and integrates acupuncture with western musculoskeletal medicine rather than running the two as separate systems. In 2024 he completed the Foundation of Musculoskeletal Medicine with the Society of Musculoskeletal Medicine and Queen Margaret University.

His performance work spanned England Hockey, England Lacrosse, Rosslyn Park RFC, GB American Football and BUCS national championships, and he was lead physiotherapist to London Giants Volleyball Club during their Super League title-winning season. He also provided musculoskeletal services to dance and theatre students at Performers College, working with the distinct demands of performing artists, and took up his current post with GB Boxing in 2025.

Josh has completed the Hintsa Performance coaching certification and holds a Certified Sleep Science Coach qualification. He has also trained in the BradCliff Breathing Method and in vestibular rehabilitation — assessment tools he draws on within a broader clinical picture rather than as standalone specialisms.

Outside clinic, Josh is a persistent learner he reads widely across disciplines and is invariably found working out how one system is influencing another.
