Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to the Marylebone Health Group FAQ page. Below, you’ll find answers to common questions about our services, appointments, insurance, and executive packages. If you can’t find what you are looking for, our clinical team is always available to assist.
1. General & Appointments
Do I need a doctor’s referral to book an appointment?
No, a GP referral is not required. You can book directly with our physiotherapists, physiologists, nutritionists, and lifestyle medicine specialists.
Note: If you plan to claim your care through Private Medical Insurance, your provider may require a GP referral prior to your initial consultation. Please check with your insurer beforehand.
Where are your clinics located?
Our primary multidisciplinary facility is located at 76 Harley Street, London, W1G 7HH. We house state-of-the-art diagnostic suites, exercise labs, and clinical rooms under one roof.
What should I bring or wear to my first appointment?
- Clothing: Please wear or bring comfortable, loose-fitting clothing or sports attire (e.g., shorts and a t-shirt) so our practitioners can assess your movement easily.
- Medical Records: If you have recent MRI/X-ray scans, doctor reports, or blood test results related to your condition, please bring them along or ideally email them to us in advance.
- Footwear: If you are visiting for a running assessment, bike fit, or CPEX test, please bring your standard training shoes or cycling shoes.
2. Executive Health & Longevity Packages
What makes MHG’s Executive Packages different from a standard health check-up?
Traditional executive health assessments are often “tick-box” tests that focus purely on detecting current illness. Our Executive Health & Longevity Packages are designed around proactive performance and longevity.
We apply the same Olympic-level, multidisciplinary methodology used with elite athletes—combining advanced cardiopulmonary diagnostics (CPEX), nutrition, psychology, sleep science, and stress-resilience to help you live not just longer, but better.
How much time do I need to set aside for an Executive Assessment?
Initial diagnostic sessions typically take half a day at our Harley Street clinic. Following your assessments, our senior team synthesizes your data into a clear, actionable longevity blueprint, delivered during a dedicated follow-up review.
3. The CPEX Lab & VO2 Max Testing
What is a CPEX (Cardiopulmonary Exercise) Test?
A CPEX (Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test) is the gold-standard assessment measuring how your heart, lungs, and muscles work together during exercise to maximum exertion. It provides precise baseline measurements of your VO2 Max, aerobic thresholds, and metabolic health.
Who is VO2 Max testing for?
VO2 Max is widely recognized as one of the strongest predictors of long-term health and longevity. Our CPEX Lab serves:
- Busy Executives & Exercise Enthusiasts wanting a precise baseline for health and longevity.
- Endurance Athletes aiming to optimise training zones and race performance.
- Pre & Post-Operative Patients needing clinical assessment prior to major surgery or rehab.
How should I prepare for a CPEX / VO2 Max Test?
- Avoid heavy exercise for 24 hours prior to your test.
- Avoid heavy meals, caffeine, and alcohol for at least 3 hours before testing.
- Stay well-hydrated throughout the day.
- Bring running/workout gear and trainers.
4. Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy
Do you only treat professional athletes?
Not at all. While our team includes former heads of performance for Team GB, Olympic physicians, and elite sports specialists, our primary mission is bringing elite care to everyone. Whether you are recovering from a surgery, managing chronic back pain, preparing for a marathon, or simply wanting to move without pain, you will receive the exact same level of world-class care.
How many physiotherapy sessions will I need?
This depends entirely on your injury, goals, and recovery capacity. After your initial assessment, your lead clinician will provide a clear, structured roadmap outlining expected timelines, treatment milestones, and home-exercise requirements.
5. Insurance & Payments
Is Marylebone Health Group covered by Private Medical Insurance?
Yes. Many of our Consultants in Sport & Exercise Medicine; Physiotherapists, and diagnostic procedures are recognised by major UK and international health insurers (including Bupa, Bupa Global, AXA Health, Cigna, WPA, and Healix).
Because coverage varies by policy, we recommend contacting your insurer to obtain pre-authorisation before your appointment. Please note that some insurers don’t cover the fees for our most experienced Specialists and Consultants so always check with us in advance.
How do payments work if I am self-paying?
For self-paying patients, fees can be paid on the day of your appointment via debit/credit card. For complex treatment pathways or Executive Packages, our team will provide a transparent fee breakdown prior to booking. If your appointment takes place in another location, away from Harley Street, payment can be made by a secure link that will be emailed to you.
