Matthew is a Chartered Physiotherapist with over 15 years of experience working in elite sports environments. Graduating with First Class Honours in Physiotherapy in 2008, Matthew furthered his expertise by completing an MSc in Sports Physiotherapy in 2018. His career began in the NHS, where he developed a strong foundation in patient care before transitioning into full-time sports physiotherapy, holding first-team positions at Gloucester Academy and Queens Park Rangers FC.
Matthew’s most recent role as Lead Physiotherapist with Great Britain and England Men’s Hockey has been particularly distinguished. He successfully led the physiotherapy service through major international competitions, including the Commonwealth Games, the World Cup, and the Paris Olympics. His work in these high-pressure environments underscores his ability to manage and rehabilitate athletes at the highest levels of sport.
In addition to his team roles, Matthew has also served as a Consultant physiotherapist at the UK Sports Institute’s Intensive Rehabilitation Unit. Here, he gained invaluable experience in managing the rehabilitation of complex injuries, further honing his skills and expanding his knowledge base.
Matthew’s extensive experience has equipped him with expert knowledge in the rehabilitation of a wide range of injuries. He specialises in complex soft tissue injuries of the hamstring and calf, as well as multi-ligament knee injuries. His commitment to continuous learning and research in these areas reflects his dedication to best practices and cutting-edge treatment methodologies.
Through his professional practice, Matthew remains deeply committed to helping athletes recover fully and achieve their peak performance, using a blend of evidence-based techniques and personalised care.
